Early Childhood Education, BSE
The early childhood education major prepared high-quality teachers for instructing students in early childhood through grade 6. Students learn to implement developmentally appropriate practice and pedagogy grounded in the science of learning. Field- and clinical-based coursework provide prospective teachers with applied learning experiences in a variety of school settings. This program leads to Texas teacher certification specific to students’ selected pathway (described below) upon the successful completion of program coursework and requirements, field and clinical experiences, and state mandated exams. In alignment with the TEA certification pathways, Early Childhood Education BSE majors must choose ONE of the following options:
EC-6 Core Subjects with STR – Provides preparation for teaching core subjects [English Language Arts/Reading (ELAR), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies] in early childhood to grade 6. Includes integrated preparation in the Science of Teaching Reading (STR).
