Long Description (Catalog Description)

Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. Concurrent enrollment in Junior block courses. Focuses on the study of the nature of literacy and second language learning processes, including the Science of Teaching Reading, and the relationship among these processes, young children, teachers, curriculum, and instruction. Emphasis is given to the guidance of students as they progress through the continuum of literacy abilities in phonics, decoding, vocabulary and comprehension in grades PK-2. Introduces recent research, philosophies of instruction, curriculum development, literature, and assessments that can be used to improve students' reading and language abilities.
