Long Description (Catalog Description)

Prerequisites: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. Concurrent enrollment in Junior 1 courses. This course builds on EDEC 20013, Science for Elementary Teachers. It will use the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as a framework to help students examine content methodology, skills, and materials used to teach science to children in elementary classrooms. Students will engage in hands-on investigations, class discussions, readings and field placements with emphasis on developmentally appropriate practices in science instruction. Procedures for planning, implementing, and reflecting on science instruction are learned in a school setting. Topics from life, earth/space and physical science will be covered.
