'Making Modern America: The American Ideal' teaches the importance of American virtues and values in a free marketplace of ideas. On a topic by topic basis, students examine limited government, capitalism, patriotism, tolerance, individualism, free speech, ethical citizenship, and the pursuit of happiness, looking at both their foundations and contemporary value. Students will analyze contemporary challenges to the American ideal, to serve as a basis for discussion and critique of the concept of an American Ideal through the end of the Modern Era in 1945.
