Long Description (Catalog Description)

Prerequisites: Successful completion of EDUC 30133 and upper-division standing, or instructor permission. The course is open to students from all majors. This course is designed to enable students contemplating or engaged in careers in the education sector or other sectors related to youth programming, services, and/or advocacy to explore concepts, theories, and perspectives in policy formation, making, and implementation. This course will explore various aspects of local, state, and federal policymaking as it pertains to K-20 education and related fields. Students will gain practical and theoretical understanding of the policy process from identifying political actors and stakeholders through agenda setting, policy implementation, and analysis, and will explore avenues for engagement in the policy process.
