Prerequisites: Successful completion of EDUC 30133 and upper-division standing, or instructor permission. The course is open to students from all majors. This is an introductory undergraduate-level course in program evaluation and evaluation-related research methods. Focus is given to critiquing and conducting a range of types of evaluation for education-related programs and to other programs related to the growth, development, and wellbeing of children and youth. Topics include types of evaluations, frameworks for conducting evaluations, strategies for establishing an evaluation purpose, the role and function of evaluators in writing grants and conducting grant-funded work, qualitative and quantitative inquiry designs and data-collecting methods, analysis of data, sampling techniques, communication of results, and reliability and validity.
