Long Description (Catalog Description)
Prerequisites: SOWO 10833 and 30863. This course will focus on mental and behavioral health issues and their implications for the profession of social work. We will study a) various careers in the social work profession that intersect with mental and behavioral health services, b) theories and frameworks for mental and behavioral health, c) issues of diversity, inequality, and stigma, and d) mental and behavioral health issues for specific populations. This course is not meant to be an in-depth clinical overview of specific diagnoses, nor will it cover advanced clinical techniques. Nevertheless, this course will encourage students to think critically about mental and behavioral health, and implications of these topics for their future professional practice.
