Disease, Disorder, and Disability
Department(s)
Long Description (Catalog Description)
Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Honors College. In this discussion-centered course, we explore a series of unsettled questions in biology, psychology, medicine, and philosophy: What is disease? Are diseases purely biological conditions or is the very definition of disease shaped by society? What does it mean to be healthy or normal? Are psychiatric disorders real? Are disabilities medical conditions or social ones? No previous background in philosophy, science, or medicine is required.
