Long Description (Catalog Description)
Prerequisites: SOWO 10833 or permission of instructor. This course focuses on aspects of the law relevant to social work practice. Students will apply legal frameworks to social work practice with families, offenders, people with mental illness, and consumer protection. Students will also learn what constitutes negligence and malpractice by social workers, the laws and ethics of confidentiality,and how to effectively collaborate as a social worker with the legal system.
