The remaining 9 hours may be selected from either category and may include courses from both categories.
Courses may not count for both major and minor requirements. For example, if the student seeks a Middle East minor and a history major, course (Introduction to Islamic Civilizations) could count toward the requirements for the minor OR the requirements for the major, but not both.
Category 1: Digital Culture
Coursework from English, writing, fine arts, and communication.
Digital culture outcomes
Students will critically assess the social and/or historical contexts of digital cultures by interrogating the norms and conventions of those cultures and the values they represent.
Students will demonstrate an ability to compose digital arguments.
Category 2: Digital Analytics
Coursework from criminal justice, economics, geography, and math.
Data analytics outcomes
Coding: Students will develop intermediate proficiency or greater with at least one coding language used for spatial/statistical analysis (STATA, R, Python).
Students will be able to present the results of their analysis in a variety of formats including plots and graphs, digital mapping and cartography, online data presentation formats.
With the approval of the academic dean, up to two courses (or six hours), including the statistics requirement, may count for both major and minor requirements. For example, if the student seeks a DCDA minor and a STCO major, course (Digital Storytelling) could potentially count toward the requirements for the minor and the requirements for the major, with approval and not in excess of 6 credit hours.
