Long Description (Catalog Description)

This course provides an overview of the health care delivery system in the United States in comparison to different systems of countries around the globe. The healthcare system will be the focus, with an emphasis on the country in which the course is being delivered. This course will explore the drivers of change over time that shape the organization and delivery of healthcare services in different systems. It will explore how services are delivered and the relationships between the different providers and payers (i.e., insurance companies, national health care). The program will have visits to various facilities in the country to allow for an overview of the facility, its services and the funding sources. Social and scientific factors related to health beliefs and practices will also be examined and discussed.
