Prerequisites: Junior or senior standing; enrollment in the Certificate in Sustainable Business program or permission of the department. This course focuses on sustainability in business, building and understanding of this evolving field, the institutions that shape it, and the role of business. Topics include the evolution of sustainability's role in business, stakeholders-modes of influence and roles, metrics, models and management systems, regulatory and reporting environment, liability and risk, and strategic considerations of companies. The course is designed to provide students with understanding, frameworks, and tools to make good decisions about how to develop strategy around sustainability, how to respond and contribute to sustainability standards and demands from stakeholders, and how to evaluate the costs and benefits of sustainability choices and initiatives. The course is open to both business and non-business students.
