Long Description (Catalog Description)
Prerequisites: ENGL 10803, 20803, and at least one 10000- or 20000-level ENGL/WRIT/CRWT course. This course uses rhetorical theory to analyze competing discourses of American identities, including how America and Americans are defined, which identities (of race, ethnicity, sexuality, ability, religion, etc.) are deemed 'un-American,' who controls those definitions, and the rhetorical strategies by which they are reinforce or challenged. Individual sections may focus on particular issues, genres, and/or time periods.
