Long Description (Catalog Description)

This course explores the relation between healthcare and visual culture of the human body. Drawing on a variety of academic disciplines and social productions, students will reflect on perceptions of the body and health in the historical and contemporary western, American medical context. Students will engage¿and to a limited extent create¿visual media in conjunction with their course readings. This course is suited for those preparing for roles as healthcare professionals with the goal of developing empathetic ways of relating to others, namely patients suffering illness and in pain.
