Long Description (Catalog Description)

Prerequisites: PSYC 30414 or 30433 or 30453 or 30473 or 30513. This course will evaluate current issues of animal cognition, including memory, tool use, numerical sense, theory of mind, navigation, and language. This course aims to provide an appreciation of the interplay between theory and empirical research. This course will begin with a discussion of empirical research on reflexes, orienting mechanisms, and associative conditioning (Pavlovian and instrumental) to provide a framework for applying knowledge of basic learning processes to claims of higher-order cognition.
