In this course we examine Japanese politics and society through both the scholarship of those who have dedicated their lives to studying Japan and through films (mostly films made by and for Japanese audiences.) Ultimately, we will strive to understand how Japanese politics and society work and to use this understanding to deepen our sense of how politics and societies function more generally.
