Long Description (Catalog Description)
This course will explore how gender is portrayed in cultural texts across a range of genres and introduce students to theories of representation. Students will examine how gender difference is represented in literature, art or film; the cultural implications of those representations; and how texts may perpetuate, challenge, and/or subvert gendered stereotypes. Texts might include novels, short stories, plays, film, television shows, web texts and social media, visual art, graphic novels, and essays.
