Young Adult Literature in American Culture

Long Description (Catalog Description)
Examines individual texts, authors, and recurring themes in Young Adult literature. Students will analyze the genre's place in American culture by surveying its history, exploring the influence of major writers' diverse ethnic, class, and gendered backgrounds, and examining its interactions with other popular forms such as graphic and film texts. Students will also examine the interactive relationship between YA texts and social issues, particularly those related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
