This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the historical developments in Modern Iran that made its experience unique among Middle Eastern and Muslin nations. Students will learn how Iranian society, culture, and politics have evolved throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries to provide an appropriate historical context in which the 1979 Islamic Revolution took place and created the first Islamic Republic in the modern Middle East. (ME)
