This course provides a broad survey of the political, economic, and social issues and challenges confronting American cities and metropolitan areas. Major topics include the historical development of cities and governance; theories of urban politics and power; urban economic development; demographic changes; race and ethnicity; metropolitan growth patterns; and select contemporary urban public policies.
