Long Description (Catalog Description)
Prerequisite: SOWO 10833. This course focuses on the social welfare system as it affects children in American society. This class focuses on the historical development of the system, the existing structure and the processes through which present policies have been established, child welfare agencies and programs, principles and policies on which children's services are based, social and legislative issues relevant to children and children's programs, andspecific techniques for working with children. This course also examines the nature and dynamics of child abuse and neglect in American society, the assessment and identification of abuse and neglect, as well as direct practice and intervention within the child welfare system.
