This a course that combines lecture, discussion and field trips in order to introduce major themes and developments which have shaped English history. Although the course proceeds chronologically, emphasis will be placed on social structures and contexts rather than a timeline of events. The course is designed to take advantage of resources available in London; therefore, several classes will be held at sites such as Westminster Abbey, Parliament, Battle Abbey, and Bodiam Castle. (EU)
