Long Description (Catalog Description)
Prerequisites: ENGL 10803 , ENGL 20803 , and at least one 10000- or 20000-level ENGL/WRIT/CRWT course. The development of American literature from the period of earliest settlement through the era of the Early Republic, emphasizing the religious and socio-political evolution of American thought; attention will also be given to the development of imaginative literature, such as the novel. Among the figures included will be William Bradford, Anne Bradstreet, Edward Taylor, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Susannah Rowson, and Charles Brockden Brown.
